About Ali

I feel so lucky to spend my days having fun with tiny little humans and working alongside the fabulous folks who educate them! You might be surprised, though, about how I ended up on this artful journey.
My first jobs were in the arts, teaching dance and drama, but then I jumped into a TV news career, doing everything from writing and producing, to reporting and anchoring. Eventually, I took a break from the “just the facts” writing for television and began to write for fun.
In 2008, I started writing stories, songs, and poems for children. I wanted to share my writings while also helping little ones learn and grow through imaginative play. With that vision in mind, I found a colorful hat, some polka dot pants and began traveling around as The Story Lady. My lively, interactive performances spur children to think and be creative; we get up and move, make sound effects, and have tons of fun!
Fast forward to now, almost 18 years later and I’m still telling stories (The Story Lady visits hundreds of children every year), still writing (4 children’s books and counting), and still dancing (I teach preschool music and movement classes). In 2022, I added another artful endeavor becoming a teaching artist for Greater Richmond Wolf Trap (GRWT). Through GRWT residencies, I visit early childhood programs in public schools and encourage arts integration, helping teachers learn to use the performing arts (music, dance, drama) as tools to enhance their class lessons.
Thanks for sharing your kiddos with me and for stopping by my site!
